When Mamadi is happy, I am happy. His smile just lights up an arena.
He's one of my favorites. From his first year, I saw the explosive plays to the basket. He made a lot of mistakes, and careless plays, through his first couple of years, but that talent was always obvious. He just needed to be in control of his abilities. Last year he blossomed, but was overshadowed by the stunning talent we had on the team in The Three. This year he has struggled at times with the full weight of leadership and expectations falling on him, but while at times the stats don't show it he is still the heart and soul of this team. Kihei is the engine, but Mamadi is the fuel. He can still be explosive at the rim, but has added such an incredible mid-range, face-up shot. It's a weapon that will come in very handy as this season turns to the tourney. Plus, he's one of the best defenders in the nation. One more example of a young man maturing and improving by committing to Coach Bennett's program, and philosophy.
College sports are cruel in a way – you get to love these players, but they're only here for a short time. I've enjoyed watching Mamadi at every stage of his career here. I wish him nothing but the best in the years to come. Go chase dreams, young man!
